JACK THE RIPPER/Sohon Teurastaja/FIx/cut 4 min 9 sec. The censor ripper more or less totally hacked this Franco effort. The murders done by Jack The Ripper (the inimitable Kinski) are cut very much, as is the scene where he slices Lina Romay, which is almost completely missing. Also the spot where Jack The Doctor "treats" a patient (Franco regular Herbert Fux) might be trimmed. NOTE: The Swiss dvd (above on the right) is completely uncensored, equipped with good extras, and the image is anamorphic widescreen, and beautifully restored from the original negatives. And suprisingly, the disc contains Finnish subtitles!

JAWS DVD THEATRICAL TRAILER/FI/cut. The Finnish dvd of "Jaws" is the same as the UK dvd, which has the US theatrical trailer of the film (included on the dvd extras) slightly cut by the BBFC. The BBFC comments: "To obtain this category cuts of 0m 0s were required. The cuts were Compulsory. Policy cut required to sight of American MPAA rating in order to avoid public confusion with UK category system". The BBFC certified the trailer 'PG'. NOTE: The trailer featured on the US dvd is not cut.

JAWS 3D/Tappajahai 3/FI/K16/cut 17 sec. Shots of a decomposed corpse in the water are removed (C'mon, guys! This was rated PG-13 in the US!). NOTE: The Finnish videoversion re-release, and the widescreen dvd-version (both rated K16) are uncut. The Finnish theatrical version (rated K18 at the time) passed uncut.

JENGI/FIc/K16/cut 6 min! This 1963 movie by Åke Lindman is probably one of the biggest cutting catastrophes VET ever put upon a Finnish movie. The very lenghty cuts list is: 1.Shots of the striptease deleted. 2.Falling into a couch, and the related line of dialogue. 3.Peeping of a woman from a key hole. 4.The fight of the women is shortened. 5.Most of the floor wrestling is cut out. 6.Part of the bedroom conversation in the dance place is deleted. 7.The car fight is completely deleted, with the exception of the first punch. 8.The line Sänkyynmeno ilman naista (= "Going to be bed without a woman") is removed. 9.The undressing and dance at the cottage is excised. 10.Groping of a woman's breasts. And VET even demanded that the title of the movie had to be changed from "Ota Minut Nuorena" (= "Take Me When I'm Young") to the present "Jengi" (= "The Gang")! The producers cashed on this quite a lot on the adversatising; the movie poster contains both titles, with a large "X" ran over the original one! NOTE: There has been no video release that I'm aware of; I don't know about the status of the Finnish television broadcasts.

THE JERK/Superhulttio/FI/K16/cut 11 sec. This is actually Steve Martin's moronic comedy! The distributor "Esselte" did lot a fuck ups in their time, like pre-cutting comedies like "Moscow On The Hudson" (!), "The Animal House", and kiddie adventures like "The Flash". So, they pre-cut this flick, even though VET wouldn't have had any problem with it. The scene that had the trimming was the scene where The Jerk (Steve "fart cloud" Martin) confronts some hoodlums in the gas-station, and one of the hoodlums is smoking a marihuana joint, and The Jerk ponders it, when he of course, being The Jerk, doesn't know what the hell a joint is. Maybe the distributor should've smoke a joint, so they wouldn't had been so fuckin' tight up all the time.

JESSI'S GIRLS/Hurjat Tytöt/FIx/cut about 45 sec. The group rape has been deleted almost completely from this Al Adampson's exploitation. NOTE: This version still lasts almost 20 minutes longer than the versions released in the UK (which are also cut by the BBFC; the first release is cut 1 minute and 27 seconds, and a re-release [titled "Wanted Women"] is cut 1 minute and 5 seconds [!]). The cuts in both presumably are from the rape.

K:

KALIFORNIA/FI/K16/cut 42 sec. This dark thriller faced the distributor's scissors. At least the stabbing in the men's room has been reduced. NOTE: The Finnish cinema-version was fully uncut with a K18-rating. The US R-rated version has been cut 10 seconds: the sex-scene between Brian (David "wooden" Duchovny), and Carrie (Michelle Forbes) has the first couple of thrusts eliminated, and in the men's room Early Grayce (Brad Pitt) stabbing the man's corpse, has been cut from five stabs to two (the cut FI-version has the sex-scene intact). The US widescreen dvd features both the R-rated cut, and the full uncut unrated version.

KARATE KID PART 2/Karate Kid 2 - Kertomus Jatkuu/FI/K12/cut 1 sec. The Finnish video- and cinema-versions are uncut, but the dvd is the same as the UK dvd (certified 'PG'), which has a BBFC cut: near the end the evil kid twirls his butterfly knife closed, but this has been removed.

KHARTOUM/Khartum/K11/cut 29 seconds. The Finnish widescreen dvd is unfortunately the same as the UK one, which has 29 seconds of BBFC cuts. The BBFC (with their unmatchable wit and style) comment: "To obtain this category cuts of 0m 29s were required. The cuts were Compulsory. Compulsory cuts required in dangerous horsefalls according to the Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act 1937 for classification of work." The BBFC rating for the film is 'PG'. NOTE: The Finnish videoversion (rated K12) is uncut. The BBFC states that the UK video released in the 80's received cuts totalling to 26 seconds, so the cuts list seemed to have advanced over the years...

KICKBOXER 3: THE ART OF WAR/Kickboxer 3: Tappava Isku/FI/K16/cut 4 min 34 sec. The cuts include the most brutal shots of the kickboxings, and some shootings. The trailer of this movie (this trailer is in some FI tapes released by the same distributor) has some shots cut from this version, including a shot of a kickboxer spitting blood! NOTE: The British cert.18-videoversion is suprisingly uncut.

KILLER NUN/Hoitomuotona Murha/FIx/cut 33 sec. The eye-gouging has been deleted. NOTE: The second FIx-version (above, with no Finnish title) is uncut. The British cert.18-videoversion has suffered cuts worth of 13 seconds.

THE KILLING OF AMERICA/Tappava Totuus/FIx/cut. There were many reports of the FIx-version of this documentary being cut, and just as many that it was uncut. ATTIC now lists this as cut, as it is confirmed that the FIx tape at least has few scenes reduced; one cut is to the store shooting, which is shown twice in the uncut version, and just once in the FIx-version. There are also some reports stating that the Vietnam sequences have faced the scissors of the distributor. NOTE: The British version (certified '18') is uncut.

KOLMEN KAUPUNGIN KASVOT/FIc/cut 55 sec. VET very heavily shortened the striptease sequence of this Finnish movie during its 1962 release.

THE KRAYS/Väkivallan Veljekset/FI/K16/cut 1 min 9 sec. The cuts include a Kray brother pushing a sword to a man's arm in the pool room, a Kray brother pushing a sword to a man's mouth (smile!), some gory shootings, and a Kray brother gouging an eye of a thug with his knife. NOTE: The Finnish theatrical version (rated K18) is uncut. The British version certified '18' is cut from the sword-to-the-mouth scene. The Australian videoversion is cut from the violence to archieve a M+15 rating; the Australian video rated R+18 is fully uncut.

KUU ON VAARALLINEN/FIc/cut 45 sec. During its release in 1961, VET chopped this daring-in-its-time Finnish film. The cuts are as follows: *Cut: Running naked. *Cut: The sexual scene at the beach. *Cut: The scene of making love after the burial. NOTE: The fully restored uncut version has at least been screened during the past decades in Finnish festivals, and cinema clubs. During its original release, it was distributed uncut to several other countries, but the censors in the respective other countries might have done damage as well.

KYLÄ/FIc/cut 40 sec. Finnish movie from 1957. During the original theatrical release, VET ordered a scene showing the police drinking alcohol (yikes!) to be completely excised.

L:

L.A. CRACK DOWN II/FI/K16/cut 16 sec. The distributor decided the public couldn't bare to see this absolutely laughable straight-to-video actioner uncut, so the following few cuts were made: 1.In the back robbery; a guy with a white shirt lying on the floor is shot with a shotgun only once instead of twice (poorly cut). 2.In the bank robbery; Karen shooting the thug with an orange shirt (EXTREMELY poorly cut!) 3.Michael sticking a crooked cane into a guy's mouth in the bar, is no more. NOTE: The Australian videoversion is HEAVILY cut.

LASER MISSION/FI/K16/cut 7 sec. Brandon Lee spy/actioner. The scene where a character is decapitated via a guillotine, and the head rolls away, is poorly edited out by VET. NOTE: The "Diamond Entertainment" full screen dvd-version from the US is uncut. The UK videoversion titled "Soldier Of Fortune" is certified '15' and uncut.

THE LAST BOY SCOUT/Viimeinen Partiopoika/FI/K16/cut 6 min 3 sec. This extremely heavily cut action has lost several scenes entirely to the scissors. The wacked-put baseball player shooting other players in the beginning of the movie has been shortened, the beating of Willis in the alley, Willis shooting thugs from both hips, Willis bashing a guy's nose to his brains, Willis shooting thugs holding his gun inside a puppet, Damon Wayans' hand being shot is completely removed, and Willis killing "the bad guy" (him splattering to the helicopter is no more either). NOTE: The Finnish dvd-version (widescreen) passed uncut with a K18-rating. The Finnish cinema-version was also uncut, and with a K18-rating. Now, is two years really that much of a difference? Six motherfuckin' minutes, for crying-out-loud?

THE LAST HUNTER/Viidakkoverilöyly/FIx/cut. A fairly violent David Warbeck actioner. The cuts were to the shooting on the boat, which was cut to remove all the bloodier violence. NOTE: The British cert.18-videoversion is cut 8 seconds (the UK widescreen dvd from VIPCO passed uncut). The UK video released prior to the video act is also said to be cut. The Danish video is widescreen and uncut.

THE LAST REUNION/Samurain Kosto/FIx/cut. The distributor trimmed this lousy ninja-samurai-bullshit flick, but left a few scenes intact, like the vicious neck-snapping. The shooting of the Japanese sergeant's wife is completely cut, and the vicous decapitation is briefly "sliced". NOTE: Also a FIx-version with a different cover, and with the Finnish title "Viimeinen Tapaaminen" is released, but it contains the same master-tape, and therefore the same cuts.

LEGALLY BLONDE 2 - SPECIAL FEATURES/FI/S/cut 53 sec. The Finnish dvd is unfortunately the same as the UK one, which has the movie fully uncut though, but the special features have been censored by 53 seconds to archieve a 'PG' certificate. The BBFC comments on the matter: 'To obtain this category cuts of 0m 53s were required. The cuts were Cuts for Category. Distributor chose to cut sight of a bleeped but clear "fuck" to camera to gain a PG. A 12 without cuts was available'.

LEON/FI/K16/cut 19 sec. The cuts include the thugs shooting Portman's family (Portman's dad's death is reduced), and Leon (Jean Reno) shooting SWATs near the end of the movie. NOTE: The widescreen "Director's Cut" version (with a lot of new scenes, that were originally cut after disastrous US previews) released in Finland on video later got passed uncut with a K16-rating including all the violence cut from the standard version intact. Still, the standard version was rated K18 by VET, when "Leon" was in the Finnish theatres. I guess they just didn't have the balls to make cuts to the Director's Cut! The Finnish dvd-version (ws) is also uncut (the standard version), and with a K16-rating.

LETHAL WEAPON/Tappava Ase/FI/K16/cut 4 min 2 sec. Why is this so goddamn heavily cut?! The cuts include most of the non-so-graphic-shootings, the scene of Gibson being tortured, and Gibson fighting Gary Busey just for the hell of it. Some scenes are outrageously shortened, like the one where Gary Busey shoots the two nosy cops in the car: first the cops are asking Busey questions, then suddenly they're dead, and their car drives to a fire hydrant! NOTE: The "director's cut" version released in the 90's passed through uncut with a K16-rating, and the dvd-version (anamorphic widescreen) got passed with a K16-rating too with no cuts! The Finnish cinema release was rated K18 at the time, and uncut.

LETHAL WEAPON 2/Tappava Ase 2/FI/K16/cut 1 min 32 sec. The Finnish dvd is the same as the German dvd, which was very heavily cut for violence. The Finnish cinema- and videoversions passed uncut with a K16 rating, even though this was heavily trimmed in some countries, like in England (certificate '18' videoversion is cut 24 seconds, cutting Mel Gibson shooting the agent hiding in the trunk, Mel Gibson killing Patsy Kensit's killers, an agent being crushed by a car hoist, and the bossbaddie getting a bullet in the final battle).

LETHAL WEAPON 4/Tappava Ase 4/FI/K16/cut 31 sec. The Finnish dvd-version is unfortunately the same as the German disc, which has been cut 31 seconds: Jet Li strangling the thug in the roof has been shortened, the neck-snapping of the old man is reduced, and the final battle has lost Li being impaled graphically. NOTE: The Finnish cinema- and videoversions are uncut and rated K16. The Finnish dvd re-issue (widescreen, rated K15) is fully uncut. Still, VET originally had some problems with this one, because it contains graphic Jet Li violence (that is cut in the flick in several countries). Still, probably because the flick had a wide audience appeal, they left it uncut. Still gotta wonder it a little bit, because have you ever seen a K16-rated video ("Braveheart" not included!), with Mel Gibson roaring, spitting blood, and bashing his shoulder towards a concrete wall, trying to get it straight again!!? The UK version is very heavily cut (1 minute and 33 seconds!!) to achieve a '15' certificate - *The fight in the roof has lost Jet Li stomping on the man's hand, and then tripping him. *Jet Li strangling the man in the roof is shortened. *The fight sequence in Danny Glover's house has been cut for violence (e.g. Rene Russo fighting the thug, and as the battle has ended, Jet Li kicking Russo). *Jet Li snapping the neck of the old man is cut. *The final battle loses Mel Gibson repeatedly headbutting Jet Li, plus much more, including Gibson eye-gouging Li, and some of Li being impaled. Also the sound-effects have been muffled.

LICENCE TO KILL/007 Ja Lupa Tappaa/FI/K16/cut 32 sec. This was K16 in the theatres in Finland and was passed uncut, but still for some reason, this was cut for the version on sale through video. The cuts include sharks eating Felix Leiter, a baddie's face melting in a compression chamber, and the final battle between Bond (Timothy Dalton) and Sanchez (Robert Davi) has been shortened. NOTE: The British cert.15-videoversion is cut. The Finnish videoversion released later on in the 90's (also rated K16) is uncut. The latest re-release (and the widescreen dvd) is also with a K16-rating. The US version was shortened to archieve a PG-13 rating.

LOCK UP/Kahleissa/FI/K16/cut 1 min 57 sec. The infamous distributor "Showtime" just had to cut this thriller, so the cuts include: 1.The scene where Leone (Sylvester Stallone) is tortured with sterile oxygen is shortened. 2.The scene where the inmates play football is shortened (!!!). 3.The death of First is heavily shortened. 4.The scene where Leone beats the crap out of the big guy is very heavily shortened (almost every punch from Leone deleted!). 4.Leone's escape-scene is shortened from several spots; shots of Leone fighting against the guards have gone. NOTE: The Finnish videoversion re-release in 1999 has got the exact same master as the "Showtime" version (yuip-pii...), and therefore contains the same cuts. The Swedish videoversion 1999 re-release is uncut.

LONG GOOD FRIDAY/Pitkä Pitkäperjantai/FI/K16/cut 35 sec. I've heard that at least the scene where the young Pierce Brosnan kills the other guy is shortened.

LOST EMPIRE/Kauhun Valtakunta/FIx/cut 1 min 27 sec. The terrorist scene in the beginning has been shortened, and two axe-to-the-head-scenes in the middle and near the end of the movie are shortened.

LOST WORLD - JURASSIC PARK - DVD SUPPLEMENTART MATERIALS/11/cut 33 sec. The Finnish dvd of the film "The Lost World - Jurassic Park" is the same as the UK disc, which features the film itself uncut, but the extra material in the disc is trimmed by 33 seconds - strong blows in a fight scene are missing.

LOVE LETTERS OF A PORTUGUESE NUN/Tuhansien Himojen Luostari/FIx/cut. The FIx-version released by "Alfa Video" (above) is luckily uncut (plus it contains the rare uncensored cover art [the poster was originally censored by the German censor FSK to block the sight of the nun's nipples]), but the other FIx-version has the ejaculation, and the screwbench torture of a nun censored (via freeze-frames), and contains the censored cover art. NOTE: The Finnish 1979 theatrical version was cut by 5 minutes and 6 seconds by the distributor to archieve a K18-rating! The Swiss dvd-version (a part of "The Official Jess Franco Collection") is uncut, and anamorphic widescreen (the image and sound being beautifully digitally restored from the original camera negatives).
